How Much Does a Yard Clean-Up Cost in Hayward? What Actually Moves the Price

Nobody likes a vague quote. Here are the five things that decide what a yard clean-up costs in the East Bay, so you know what you're paying for before anyone shows up.

The honest answer is “it depends,” which is why I walk every yard before I give a number. But “it depends” isn’t useful to you, so here is exactly what it depends on. Once you know these five things, my estimate will make sense — and so will anyone else’s.

1. How much has to leave

Hauling is usually the biggest single factor. A light tidy might fit in your green bin. A yard that hasn’t been touched in a year can be two or three truckloads of branches, old sod and junk, and every load is time and a dump fee. If you want to bring a price down, this is the lever: have anything you can put in the green bin over the weeks before.

2. Height and thickness of the overgrowth

Grass at ankle height is a mow. Grass at knee height is a string trimmer, then a mow, then a rake. Blackberry, ivy and bamboo are their own category — they take hours per section and come back unless the roots go too.

3. Trees

Hedge and shrub trimming is included in most clean-ups. Tree work is quoted separately once limbs need a pole saw or a ladder, because it’s slower and safety comes first. Clearing branches off a roof or a fence line is the most common add-on I see in Hayward.

4. Access

A backyard with a wide side gate near the driveway is quick. A backyard where every load goes through the house or over a fence takes longer. It’s not a big number, but it’s real.

5. Whether you want it kept that way

A one-time reset and a reset that turns into weekly or bi-weekly service are priced differently. If you’re going on a maintenance schedule, the clean-up is the start of a relationship, and I price it that way.

What a fair estimate looks like

It’s given after someone actually looks at the yard, not over the phone from a description.
It says what’s included: trimming, weeding, mowing, edging, hauling — and what isn’t.
It’s one number. The price you hear is the price you pay.
